Piupiu Cross with Ngore

This decorative piupiu is a fusion of traditional piupiu, whatu and a decorative pompom element called ngore.  

The piupiu is the long swinging strands of harakeke, most commonly seen in traditional skirts and capes.  Whatu is the finger weaving technique developed by Maaori used here with the addition of feathers and ngore which is a decorative pompom using copper wire.
